PRLog (Press Release) – May 31, 2013 – VAN NUYS, Calif. –San Fernando Valley based Valley Investigators of the Paranormal will be holding a fundraising ghost hunt at the historic Pioneer Cemetery in Sylmar, California on June, 15 starting at 6pm and running until midnight. Pioneer Cemetery, California Historic Landmark 753 is the second oldest cemetery in the San Fernando Valley being established in 1870 as Morningside Cemetery and being abandoned after the last person was officially buried there in 1939. Out of the 750 graves that were once there, where Native Americans, both purportedly veterans of both the Civil War and World War I, as well as many prominent citizens of the day were buried, the site now has 15 monuments remaining as well as bases for 30 others that have been destroyed or removed. Also buried there were children who died of influenza and victims of the St. Francis Dam Flood.
Many people who have visited and volunteered at the site have reported experiencing paranormal phenomena. Could these be restless spirits, upset because of the vandalism, theft and decay that occurred there?
The ghost hunt, led by VIP will be to raise funds for the San Fernando Valley Historical Society which oversees the cemetery. The funds will be used for such things as maintenance, repair and landscaping. Hopefully the cemetery can one day be back to the condition it once was and the spirits can finally rest in peace.
