Kerry Joining FMs from Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya for South Sudan Talks

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in Ethiopia for talks Thursday with the Ethiopian, Ugandan and Kenyan foreign ministers about halting the conflict in neighboring South Sudan. Kerry arrived late Wednesday in Addis Ababa, where a senior State Department official has said the secretary will deliver “tough messages” to both the South Sudanese government and rebels. May Day Celebrants Fill Moscow’s Red Square

Tens of thousands of people took part in a May Day parade through the center of Russia’s capital, Moscow, on May 1.  It marks the first time since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991 that a parade has been held in Moscow’s Red Square to mark the holiday, also known as International Workers’ Day. Tens of thousands of people took part in a May Day parade through the center of Russia’s capital, Moscow, on May 1. China, Russia To Hold Joint Naval Exercises

China and Russia will hold joint naval exercises in the East China Sea later this month. The Chinese Defense Ministry said on May 1 that the “Jointly At Sea 2014″ maneuvers will be held off the coast of Shanghai in late May. Lithuanian FM Says Ukraine Has ‘Duty’ to Halt Separatists

IMF Approves $17 Billion Loan For Ukraine

The International Monetary Fund has approved a $17 billion two-year aid program for Ukraine to help spur its economy and fill its depleted treasury. The decision by the IMF’s executive board on April 30 includes an immediate disbursement of $3.2 billion to the government in Kyiv. Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Musavi has been transferred to house arrest, a day after he was hospitalized due to heart problems.
